About
Mika Martin Nieuwenhuyzen completed his master's in bioinformatics (Distinction) at The University of Western Australia. He wrote his dissertation on gene body methylation (gbM) in Arabidopsis thaliana and was the May 2026 spotlight for Trends in Genetics. Mika's current work focuses on developing open-source software (OSS) and agentic AI harnesses for complex bioinformatics workflows. In his spare time he experiments and trains AI models; creating LoRAs, hypernetworks and image models. His hobbies include reading comics, watching anime and playing with his dog.
