We combine molecular biology, AI, and mathematics to understand RNA regulation, and use that knowledge to design next-generation medicines.
Who We Are
Biological information does not end at the genome. It flows through RNA: copied, modified, translated, and eventually destroyed in a tightly regulated molecular relay. Our group decodes the hidden rules governing this relay and encodes that knowledge into tools, diagnostics, and therapies.
BIOCODECS brings together experimental RNA biology (RMODEL) and statistical mathematics (COMPASS), internationally. By combining multi-omic measurements, statistical inference, and predictive modelling, we work across the full arc from fundamental discovery to clinical application.
We are associated with the Australian Centre for RNA Therapeutics in Cancer (ACRTC) and the RNA Innovation Foundry at The University of Western Australia, and with the CNRS through IRL FAMSI in Canberra. Our contribution within that network is complementary: we supply the measurement and modelling layer, quantifying what RNA actually does inside living cells, so that therapeutic and translational programmes can build on mechanistic evidence rather than assumption.
From Signal to Solution
Every Biocodecs project moves along the same arc, from molecular signals in living cells to designed RNA medicines.
Integrated multi-omics
We measure RNA at every level (transcription, modification, translation, stability) and integrate these layers computationally to see what single assays miss.
Biology → AI → clinic
Discoveries flow from the bench through computational modelling to clinical application. Every project connects fundamental insight to therapeutic potential.
Two disciplines, one mission
Experimental RNA biology and statistical mathematics work as equal partners: a unified research programme, not a service relationship.
